Taiwan and Hong Kong: Since there are no direct flights, we recommend making a transfer in Fukuoka. We will provide all the details in the upcoming section titled “Getting to Nagasaki from East Asia Via Fukuoka.”

Fukuoka Airport serves as a hub when traveling from East Asia to Kyushu. There are many flights connecting East Asia with Fukuoka Airport. Next, we introduce the main airlines headed for Fukuoka and the airports they depart from.

◆ Traveling From Fukuoka to Nagasaki
To get to Nagasaki Station from Fukuoka City’s Hakata Station it takes about 1.5 hours by shinkansen and limited express train, and about 2.5 hours by highway bus. We will provide all the details in the upcoming section titled,  “Getting to Nagasaki Station From Fukuoka and Other Cities In Kyushu.”

Great news for people from South Korea or those who would like to travel between South Korea and Kyushu! South Korea’s Busan is connected to Nagasaki’s Tsushima Island by ferry, making it possible to travel here by boat.
*Travel times, the number of ferry departures, and fares all depend on the operating company as well as the time of the year. For details, please refer to the respective company’s official homepage.

・Main Ferry Companies: Star Line, PanStar Line, Dae-A Express Shipping
・Routes: ①Busan Port -> Hitakatsu Port, ②Busan Port -> Izuhara Port
・Required Travel Time: 1 hour and 10 minutes to 2.5 hours
・Number of Departures: Two to four departures daily
・Fare: One-way fare ranges from 8,000 to 15,000 yen by season and cabin

Many flights headed for Nagasaki Airport also leave from the Kansai area. Even though the Kansai Region is closer to Nagasaki than Tokyo, traveling by air is still more convenient than by shinkansen.

・Required Travel Time: About 4 hours～4 hours and 40 minutes

Nagasaki has convenient access from Fukuoka, Kyushu’s transportation hub, as well as from the popular sightseeing destinations of Kumamoto and Oita.
However, keep in mind that the number of shinkansen and express trains in Kyushu is limited. So if renting a vehicle is an option for you, we recommend getting around by car.
