Request to Observe Proper Manners at Tourist Sites
To whom it may concern,
Thank you for your continued support for Nagasaki City’s tourism.
The Sotome area, located in the northern region of Nagasaki City, is home to component sites of the World Heritage “Hidden
Christian Sites in the Nagasaki Region.” This has brought many tourists from in and around Japan to visit or make
pilgrimages to these heritage sites, contributing to the revitalization of this region. However, we have received reports that
some tourists on bus tours have engaged in inappropriate behavior, such as urinating on the roads near tourism facilities
in the mountainous areas of the region. This has led to numerous complaints from local residents.
In the Sotome area, we have built parking lots both for large buses and passenger vehicles with public restrooms. We ask
for your assistance in encouraging tourists to use these public restrooms in parking lots as well as to observe proper
manners.
We hope for your understanding and cooperation with us in better protecting the environment of these tourist sites, and in
achieving a better coexistence with local residents.
SUZUKI Shiro
Mayor of Nagasaki
