Christmas is a very special occasion in Shinkamigoto, owing to its long and rich Christian history. The churches are decorated with lights during the month of December, which is combined with their stunning orchestral performances of traditional Christmas songs, makes for a truly enchanting Christmas experience.

Designated as one of Japan's greatest night views
During the month of December, most of Kamigoto's 29 churches will be decorated by hand by their followers. One of the most anticipated sights in Kamigoto in the winter is of the beautifully illuminated churches beneath a sky full of stars. The night view of these churches holds such renown that they've even been designated as one of Japan's Heritage Night View properties. During the day, enjoy the beautiful views and unique atmospheres of the church buildings and their surrounding villages, and at night, feel at peace as you gaze upon the churches as they can only be seen during the winter.
