Around 16th Century, the Jesuit secondary school “Arima Seminary” was established in Kita-Arima-cho, Minami-Shimabara for the first time in Japan. A group of four young men was sent to europe as the Tensho Embassy after learning western music, art, astronomy, Latin, and religion there.

"Festivitas Natalis" is a Christmas event which recreates the atmosphere at that time. You can see the Nanban (western) culture including cuisine, song and a procession of 200 people dressed in their unique costume. A giant christmas tree is also a must-see attraction.
