Paint Hasami Porcelain using traditional centuries-old techniques!
Create your own blue-and-white ceramic at Kurawankan - located in Ceramics Hall, Hasami Town.

In this hands-on pottery painting workshop, you’ll use gosu - a traditional cobalt-blue pigment - to decorate your own teacup, mug, bowl, or plate. Whether you’re inspired by classic floral designs or want to paint something a little more modern, this workshop offers a creative and cultural experience perfect for individuals, families, and school groups. Your piece will be glazed and fired for a lasting finish, and can be shipped anywhere in Japan.

      🧑‍🎨 What You’ll Do:

      • Choose from a teacup • rice bowl • mug • 6-inch plate • 7-inch plate
      • Get a quick intro from the instructor
      • Sketch a design or start painting – reference materials available!
      • Your piece will be glazed and fired - ready in 2 - 4 weeks
      • Make sure to wear clothes you don’t mind getting a little paint on!

🎨 This workshop takes place inside Ceramics Hall, a facility that also houses the Kurawankan Collection museum display, a shopping area featuring work from over 35 local pottery studios, and the Hasami Tourism Association. With ample seating and a rich cultural setting, a visit to Kurawankan offers much more than just pottery painting! (Plus, you might even meet Kurawankan's famous Gen-san 🤖)

Combine your trip to the Ceramics Hall with lunch at nearby Nishinohara - just a 5-minute walk away. Choose between homemade rice balls and miso soup (Nigirimeshi Kawachi), creamy chicken and veggie coconut curry (Monné Legui Mooks), or maybe some homemade ice cream (Kometama) or hand-drip specialty coffee (イソザキ珈琲 shady).
