Create a watercolor-like design on a ceramic plate using cut-out paper shapes and paint droppers.

 

Pottery painting meets paper craft in this one-of-a-kind washi dyeing workshop. Instead of using brushes, you’ll cut shapes from washi paper, place them on a ceramic plate, and use droppers to apply colorful paint. As you peel away the paper, you’ll reveal a beautiful, watercolor-like design. It’s a forgiving and fun process that’s perfect for kids, beginners, and anyone looking to try something a little bit different. 

 

🧑‍🎨 What You’ll Do:

• Grab your bisque-fired plate (included in the fee)
• Select pre-cut stencils, or make your own by drawing a shape on washi paper and carefully cutting it out
• Using tweezers, dip your paper shape in water, then place it onto your ceramic item
• Use a dropper to apply colored pigments (including traditional gosu cobalt blue) onto the stencil
• Once fully saturated with color, gently peel away the paper to reveal a soft, dappled design
• Add optional finishing touches with a brush
• Your piece will be glazed and fired after the session — ready in about 2 weeks

🎨 This method is beginner-friendly and fun for children, especially with adult guidance. You can even use a paper punch to make simple shapes, flowers, and stars - great for little ones who aren't used to using scissors yet.
