The roots split into two, giving the appearance of it standing firmly above the walkway on two legs. The footpath beneath leads to Narao Shrine, which is why it is called a "natural torii gate". This spiritual power spot is said to bestow longevity in those who walk under it.

It is 25 meters in height, 12 meters around the trunk in circumference. This is the largest trunk circumference of any sea fig tree in Japan.

On April 27th, 1961 it was designated as a national natural monument.
